Frequently Asked Questions
From time to time, Doran Coins gets questions from collectors like you
regarding the numismatic hobby and company matters.  Listed below are
questions that are most frequently asked.

ARE YOU A COIN DEALER?

Doran Coins is a dealer of coins & currency of the U.S. & the World.

DO YOU HAVE A RETAIL SHOP?

Not at this time, however, at some point in the future, Doran Coins may
have one.

WHAT TYPE OF NUMISMATIC ITEMS DO YOU SELL?

Doran Coins sells coins & currency of the U.S. & the World.

DO YOU BUY COINS & CURRENCY?

Yes, Doran Coins buys coins & currency.  Please bear in mind that what
coin or a piece of currency is worth in a price guide (like the Red Book)
does not mean that a dealer will pay that price for it.

DO YOU SET UP AT COIN SHOWS?

Doran Coins sets up at coin shows in Illinois and Indiana.

DO YOU HAVE A PRINTED VERSION OF YOUR PRICE LIST?

Not at this time.  But, in the future, one can be made into a PDF file (which
requires Adobe Acrobat).

I HAVE A FEW COINS THAT A RELATIVE GAVE ME, AND I
WANTED TO SEE WHAT THEY'RE WORTH.  CAN YOU DO THIS?

Doran Coins can look at your coins, but only in person either at a coin
show or by appointment.  Due to scanners having different resolutions
(and quality), scanning a coin for the purpose to have it looked at is not
suggested.  Since a coin is a 3-dimensional object, it is best looked at in
person.

DO YOU OFFER INVESTMENT ADVICE?

Doran Coins does not offer investment advice, as numismatics should be
enjoyed for fun and personal satisfaction.

I'M A COLLECTOR FROM GREAT BRITAIN, AND IF I WANTED TO
PURCHASE A COIN FROM YOU, CAN I PAY FOR IT IN BRITISH
POUNDS?

Yes you can.  In fact, Doran Coins accepts U.S. Dollars, British Pounds, EU
Euros, Canadian Dollars, & Australian Dollars.  All you need to do is send
an e-mail for the exchange rate.

DO YOU RECOMMEND CLEANING COINS?

NO, NO, NO!!!!!  One of the biggest (and costliest) mistakes that any
collector can do to a coin is cleaning it.  These cleaners have abrasives,
which not only will it leave hairline scratches, but gives the coin a very
unnatural look.  And add to the fact that the coin you paid good money
before is now worth less (in most cases, a lot less).

HOW OFTEN DOES THE PRICE LIST CHANGE?

Periodically, the price list changes, but only as whether new material is
acquired.

ARE YOU SELLING COIN SUPPLIES?

At the present time, our sister site, Doran Supplies, is being built to cater to
those who need quality numismatic supplies such as books, videos, coin
flips, and more.  The site is planned to be open in Summer 2008.
